The Early Bird 10 Mile Run presented by Nebraska Medicine
Notification Reminders & Detour Maps
Dear Neighbor,
On Saturday, April 8, 2023, hundreds of runners will be running the Early Bird – 10 Mile Run. The race starts at Walnut Grove Park and will run around Lake Zorinsky and back to Walnut Grove. We hope that you will find the Early Bird an entertaining and spectator friendly event and great for the Omaha community.
We have worked closely with the Omaha Police Department, Omaha Parks and Recreation, and Omaha Public Works to create a race that runs past parks and lakes in a way that it showcases Millard. The detour map below will help determine when runners will be in your area
We have created an interactive Google map with suggested driving routes to best avoid closed roads on race day.
The race starts at 7:30 a.m. from Walnut Grove Park. The route exits the park, west on Q Street and north on 156th Street before joining the bike path around Zorinsky Lake and back to Walnut Grove Park.
Areas that will see detours will be
Walnut Grove Plaza Shopping Center: The shopping center will be open the entire time allowing you to visit the stores, restaurants, and businesses as you normal would. Runners will be parking at Millard South and have been instructed not to park at the shopping center.
Surrounding Neighborhood Residents: If you live in one of the neighborhoods adjacent to street closures. You may have to change your Saturday morning driving route – but all residents will have a way to exit and enter their households doing the race.
We are confident that this can be an extremely fun experience for you. In other races, we have had residents on some level, from spectators to volunteers. You too can get involved with one of the following ideas:
